Andries Gous, Steven Taylor, and Ali Khan return to the USA squad for the Oman tour.

After a turbulent series of events—including the dismissal of head coach Stuart Law and Andries Gous’ mid-series withdrawal for personal reasons during the USA’s last international tour in October—the 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has been named in both the ODI and T20I squads for the Oman tour. A well-traveled T20 player, it remains uncertain whether Gous will arrive in Oman in time for the first ODI on February 8, as he is still engaged with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20, which concludes on February 9. Similarly, the arrival of left-arm spinners Harmeet Singh and Nosthush Kenjige remains uncertain due to their ongoing commitments with Sharjah Warriors and MI Emirates, respectively. Their potential absence, combined with the conditions in Oman, may finally open the door for young leg-spinner Yasir Mohammad, who has largely been limited to carrying drinks during the last three USA tours. The squad announcement did not include a designated vice-captain, despite Aaron Jones’ selection in both white-ball squads. Jones had previously been omitted from the home ODI squad in October after prioritizing club commitments in the CPL over national duty but was later recalled as a replacement following Gous’ withdrawal. USA has also recalled veteran all-rounder Steven Taylor for the T20I squad. The hard-hitting left-hander last played a T20I during the World Cup in June but was dropped from both white-ball squads after the Netherlands tour in August. His comeback was further delayed by injuries, but a string of strong performances—including twin centuries in Minor League Cricket and an impressive stint in the Guyana Global Super League—has earned him a return to the squad. The Oman T20Is will also mark the return of USA’s star pacer Ali Khan, who has been sidelined by a combination of injuries and club commitments since the World Cup.

Marcus Stoinis Retires from ODI Cricket to Focus on T20s

Marcus Stoinis has announced his immediate retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket, capping his games for Australia at 74. He will continue to be available for selection in T20Is. Stoinis’ ten-year ODI career began against England in 2015 at Old Trafford. He also played his first T20 International on that tour. He had to wait until the following year for his next opportunity to establish himself in Australia’s ODI team, scoring 146 not out against New Zealand at Eden Park and taking three wickets. Stoinis was part of Australia’s ODI World Cup title in 2023 and was voted the country’s ODI cricketer of the year in 2018-19. His decision to retire from ODI format is to focus on T20 cricket. Marcus Stoinis said: “Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I’ll always cherish. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I’ve got a fantastic relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald) and I’ve hugely appreciated his support. “I’ll be cheering the boys on in Pakistan.” Australian men’s Head Coach Andrew McDonald said: “Stoin has been such a pivotal part of our ODI setup for the past decade. “Not only has he been an invaluable player but also an incredible person to have in the group. He is a natural leader, an exceptionally popular player and a great person. “He should be congratulated on his ODI career and all of his achievements.” Stoinis’ retirement from ODI cricket means he will be replaced in Australia’s squad for the ICC Champion’s Trophy. The National Selection Panel (NSP) will finalise the squad for the Champion’s Trophy following the conclusion of the Test series against Sri Lanka. Every match of the ICC Champions Trophy is live and exclusive on Prime Video from February 19.

Australia dominate India to win Under-19 World Cup title

Benoni, South Africa AUSTRALIA CLINCH U19 MEN’S CRICKET WORLD CUP CROWN WITH EMPHATIC WIN OVER INDIA Australia’s terrific U19 World Cup side have emulated their seniors by beating India to become champions of the world. A dominant Australian side produced a superb all-round performance to secure their fourth ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup crown, overcoming a formidable Indian side amid a vibrant final atmosphere at Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Sunday. Led by Hugh Weibgen, Australia put in an exceptional display in the blockbuster finale, first posting the highest total ever recorded in a U19 Men’s CWC final and then executing a flawless display of bowling to dismantle India’s chase and secure the win by 79 runs. After compiling a daunting 7-253 off their 50 overs, the Australians, with their “ferocious” young quartet of fast bowlers and the artful spin of Raf MacMillan, skittled out India’s previously unbeaten side for 174 off 43.5 overs at Willowmoore Park. Australian skipper Hugh Weibgen was proud of the effort from his team, especially the quicks, and also had a few words of encouragement for India. “Our plan was to bat first and try and get runs on the board. We backed ourselves. A quality innings from Harjas [Singh]. Full credit to the coaches for sticking with him. They [pacers] can go far as a unit, they know their roles so well. I’ll be surprised if the four of them don’t go a long way in their careers. India are a class side, they dominated the whole tournament, just came out on the wrong side.” Indian captain Uday Saharan commended the fighting spirit of his team and hoped to learn from the experience. “I’m proud of the boys, they played very well and showed good fighting spirit. We played a few rash shots and didn’t spend time in the middle. We were prepared but couldn’t quite execute well. There are a lot of learnings from the tournament. We learnt a lot from the coaches and support staff and more importantly from the games themselves.”
